Chosen Answer:

There are a number of things you can do to eliminate anxiety naturally without using medications. Bottom line is anxiety is caused by your negative THOUGHTS (either subconscious or conscious thoughts). By mastering your thinking you can eliminate or reduce anxiety.

Below are some proven methods you can use to reduce or eliminate anxiety:

a) Meditation is proven to help reduce anxiety and is also not difficult to learn. 10 minutes a day is all that is required to help calm your mind

b) Self Hypnosis: You should buy a good book on this and learn self hypnosis

c) Repeating Positive Affirmations: The best time to do this is at night before bed or in the morning when you wake up. About 7 to 8 minutes is all you need.

d) Try to learn the root cause of your anxiety. For example I use to be scared of the dark, and learned I was accidentally locked in a dark basement as a child. As soon as I learned this my fear of the dark immediately went away.

How could I treat my anxiety without medication?

I can’t afford medication, and I don’t want to alienate my boyfriend or the other people I love with my anxiety attacks. Any suggestions?

Chosen Answer:

I suggest EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) I had extreme anxiety and used it. Not only did it help me when I began to have a panic attack, but it also helped me resolve things and understand myself better so, over time, the numbers and severity of the anxiety attacks decreased significantly. Meditation is a good suggestion as well, though it didn’t work as much for me because my mind wanders easily. I have problems focusing. Definitely look into both. This is actually Better than medication because you’re not adding all the chemicals your body doesn’t need. Take it from someone who knows that the hard way.

What is an easy way to deal with social anxiety?

I have a lot of anxiety about going to school everyday because I have social anxiety disorder and it’s very hard to communicate with people and I get nervous that the teacher will call on me and I will get something wrong or say something too quiet. Stuff like that embarrasses me because I’m more shy. I don’t have a lot of friends because I’m not that outgoing and it depresses me. I also have no self confidence whatsoever. Any advice?

Chosen Answer:

Here are a couple of ideas. Check out the sources for more good ideas.

Ponder on things that run inside your mind when you’re having an attack. Instead of thinking about losing control or, even worse, dying, start thinking about positive and happy thoughts, such as assuring or convincing yourself that you’ll soon get out of the situation.

Never think that the panic attack will make your heart stop and will make you stop breathing, or even make you go crazy and lose control. These are common emotional symptoms that are controllable. Again, don’t think about negative things when you’re having an attack. Instead, focus on positive and calming things. You can start by thinking that panic attacks can be treated and that you’ll never die from it.

How can I overcome social anxiety without medication?

I’m 16 years old and have social anxiety. I had it for 3 years and hate it. I have no friends at all and want to fit in and live a normal teen life. Can social anxiety be overcome without medication? How do become social anxiety? I want to have friends but I’m too scare and shy to talk to people. Let’s say there’s somebody i want to be friends with and sits next to me. How do I get their attention? Besides asking them for a pencil, what else can I say?

Chosen Answer:

Force yourself to overcome this.

When they are sitting next to you, smile and say hi, tell them your name. “Hi, I’m (insert name), how are you doin today?” If a girl, say hey I really like your earrings, shirt, were did ya get it? If your in class make small talk “man this class sucks or this is so boring”. When you talk look them in the eyes (even if you blush) just have a conversation. If you have to pretend they are a sibling or someone you feel comfortable with and just talk.

It will take practice but eventually you will overcome most of it.

How can a person suffering from anxiety make and go to a therapy appointment?

I feel like the anxiety over calling and going is so overwhelming. I want help but at the same time I can’t deal with the anxiety associated with going. I feel like I might be able to hide it at first but I don’t want to break down or drive there and then sit in the parking lot frozen by anxiety.

And mind over matter doesn’t help…as I’m sure those of you dealing with anxiety know. I’ve tried to feel different, I just can’t seem to.

Chosen Answer:

Call your local hospital outpatient clinic and state your issues and say you would like to see someone. This would be a lot easier than picking one out of the phone book, or maybe you already have one in mind. Your anxiety can be helped greatly by therapy and medication and you need to comfort yourself with these thoughts. When you get in there and start talking about whats bothering you, you will start to feel a little less anxiety. Is there some major problem in your life right now, like death of a loved one, or something else traumatic that happened to you? Your probably like me and have a genetic predisposition to having anxiety but there is most likely something in your life making it worse, think about what that is and write about, cry about it, think about and start dealing with it. Plus stay far away from any stimulants, like coffee, tea, soda with caffeine.

Why is anxiety and depression an epidemic compared to 40 years ago?

Why do you think depression, anxiety and mental health problems have grown to be an epidemic? What do you think would help slow the progression of mental health problems? Do you think mental health problems are genitic, situational, environmental, or is it due to a chemical imbalance? When a person becomes depressed; do you think it is because our brain stops producing certain chemicals or does our brain produce a chemical that aggravates depression/anxiety? Why is it when we feel anxious, our bodies react in strange ways such as pounding heart, dizzyness, can’t breath, and intestinal problems?

Chosen Answer:

Why do you think depression, anxiety and mental health problems have grown to be an epidemic? What do you think would help slow the progression of mental health problems? I think we just talk about them more than we used to. However, there are some social changes that may lead to anxiety; family structure isn’t what it used to be, people feel more isolated, etc. Maybe having a stronger sense of family and being part of a group of people who care about you, people you can talk comfortably with about anything.

Do you think mental health problems are genitic, situational, environmental, or is it due to a chemical imbalance? It can be any of those; it’s generally considered a “chemical imbalance”, but that could be triggered by genetic, situational factors, physical disease or head injury, or any combination of these.

When a person becomes depressed; do you think it is because our brain stops producing certain chemicals or does our brain produce a chemical that aggravates depression/anxiety? At least some of the time, yes. More often the brain still produces them, but they break down too quickly before they do what they are supposed to do. No one is absolutely sure why that happens in some people and not others.

Why is it when we feel anxious, our bodies react in strange ways such as pounding heart, dizzyness, can’t breath, and intestinal problems? The autonomic nervous system controls mood, anxiety, digestion, sex, etc. I think it’s a kind of imbalance in the autonomic nervous system. It might have been there to help our prehistoric ancestors get away from an enemy or something but maybe the purpose of this isn’t as practical in modern times. Kind of left over instincts for survival that are no longer applicable. (Just an idea.)

How to ease the separation anxiety of a mother dog from her puppies?

I have a chihuahua who had 3 puppies a few months back. Now that they are weened, I’ll be giving them to various family members. I’m worried that she’ll experience a lot of anxiety over this. Are there any ways to ease this? Will she get over having her puppies taken away from her?

Chosen Answer:

Yep, after having many litters myself I can tell you that the best thing that you can do is to leave a few small stuffed toys around her.
She will more than likely start carrying them around and nesting them as she would her pups.
This will only go on for a short while and she will get over it.
Good Luck and God Bless

What is the best anxiety medication for teens?

My brother is 14 and has been diagnosed with anxiety disorder. He was prescribed Zoloft about a month ago and it has not made any changes in him at all except for increased appetite. His anxiety has gotten so bad he can’t even go to school or to places with a lot of people. Going back to the doctor tomorrow but would appreciate an opinion from someone who has had a similar experience. I also have anxiety and take Klonopin (benzos) which work great for me but don’t think they prescribe them to teens. Thanks

Chosen Answer:

Send your brother to a therapeutic boarding school. They specialize in treating troubled teens from all walks of life. The private boarding school is highly effective, so much so that many of the students come by word of mouth. They can help any troubled teen get back on the right track. Good luck.
