How could I treat my anxiety without medication?

I can’t afford medication, and I don’t want to alienate my boyfriend or the other people I love with my anxiety attacks. Any suggestions?

Chosen Answer:

I suggest EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique) I had extreme anxiety and used it. Not only did it help me when I began to have a panic attack, but it also helped me resolve things and understand myself better so, over time, the numbers and severity of the anxiety attacks decreased significantly. Meditation is a good suggestion as well, though it didn’t work as much for me because my mind wanders easily. I have problems focusing. Definitely look into both. This is actually Better than medication because you’re not adding all the chemicals your body doesn’t need. Take it from someone who knows that the hard way.

Chosen Answer:

Not too likely you would have a heart attack at 15.

DO see a doctor though, your symptoms “could” be something other than anxiety and they should check.

The symptoms you described are typical of anxiety though. The best treatment is always to find out what you are anxious about and talk to someone: a relative, friend, school counselor or therapist.

If it’s bad enough, they can prescribe medication for it but it’s best not to have to do that.

Once you recognize the anxiety is not going to harm you or interfere with your life it will usually go away on it’s own.

Keep up your sports. Exercise literally produces chemicals in your body that helps with anxiety.

What drugs are good for anxiety and obsessive compulsive disorders that won’t cause weight gain?

I have severe anxiety and about a month ago my family doc switched my lexapro to prozac. Not a good outcome. I ended up in the ER this past weekend with a panic attack. So I have xanax and lexapro now. I read that xanax causes weight gain and I know lexapro caused a little in me. I am so stressed!

Chosen Answer:

Klonopin maybe, ask your doctor but the generic form is Clonazepam. Its a benzodiazepine just like alprazolam or xanax and my sister used to take it for anxiety related to OCD so im just suggesting you ask about it. I dont think it causes weight gain like xanax is known to.

How can I overcome social anxiety in order to ride the bus to the psychiatrist?

I have really bad anger issues and social anxiety, and depression problems. I used to be on meds but I’m not anymore, and the symptoms are back. Im 20 and I cant be depending on my mom for rides. How can I take a bus or train without having a panic attack? People think I’m lazy because I only want rides, it angers me because that is not the case at all. Please help.

Chosen Answer:

Don’t look at anyone, and imagine you’re in your own little world, even thought that sounds crazy. Just ignore it and count to ten everytime you panic.

Can a lot of anxiety and stress cause a heart attack in a person with a healthy heart?

I have been to 2 cardiologists and a whole bunch of other doctors to check if I have a heart problem. They’ve done multiple tests and all conclude that I have a healthy heart. At times I feel a sense of my heart skipping a beat and off and on pain, I do suffer from some health anxiety and it stresses me out. I have a heart obsession I’m always afraid of something happening with my heart. I’m 21 yrs old and overweight but I have been eating healthy. I eat fish, lots of veggies and drink organic juices. So I just want to know if thinking bad things all the time can cause bad things to happen?

Chosen Answer:

I am the same exact way. I have been experiencing panic/anxiety attacks for a little more than a year. It is one of the scariest feelings in the world when you think something is wrong with your heart. I experience heart palpitations very often. I am constantly wondering if I am going to die, but the doctor keeps reassuring me that my heart is healthy, and I am absolutely fine.

To answer your question, yes, a great deal of stress, can cause a heart attack, but I don’t think you have anything to worry about at age 21. Obeisity, is also a factor in heart disease, but again, if your doctor has assured you that your heart is healthy, then my advice is to take his word. When you feel that your heart is skipping a beat, remember your conversations with your doctor. If you need immediate reassurance, visit the ER, most likely, they will give you something to calm you, and then send you home. I’ve been there and done that MANY times.

A pshycotheropist would probably give you the stregnth to over come your anxiety attacks on your own. I am just beginning to self cope myself. Sometimes, I wonder if I suffer from hypocondriocis.

Also, be sure to ask your health professional about any prescription drugs that can help you overcome your fears. I hate being prescribed meds, but I was taking .05 mg of xanax 3x per day, and you’d be suprised at how much it helped me. It was a little expensive though, so my doctor suggested klonopin. 1mg, 2 tx per day. It works great as well. I suggest you discuss your options with your doctor, and see if that helps.

Panic attacks are by far the most scary things I have ever experienced, and sometimes, they are hard to get through. However, It sounds to me like you are experiencing the same problem. Just keep eating healthy and I think you will be just fine. I hope you can find something to help you cope with this disorder. No one should have to live their life in fear.

If you ever need reassurance you can email me. jessicamay0120@yahoo.com. I have found that talking with others with the same problem is one thing that always made me feel more comfortable. Try not to think about it, that only makes things worse. Remember, many people have this disorder, and you will be ok, and hopefully someday be able to overcome these attacks all together! Good luck with everything and take care!

What happens if I pop positive for Valium as a nurse but prescription is from Mexico?

I use to take Xanax for anxiety. I was in Mexico had a panic attack i went to Md he gave me Valium. Dr is legal, crossed over with med and prescription. A day later I get drug screened at work the Drug officer states it’s illegal since I didn’t get drug in USA and tested positive for Valium. What is going to happen to my nursing license and job?

Chosen Answer:

I am answering because I am a nurse and am interested in your question….however, it actually has nothing to do with travel to Mexico. It would be bet under the law and ethics section…to get better answers. I think the person that told you that is full of himself. Ask him to show you that in writing. Valium is a legal medication , not an illegal drug. There is no law or regulation against a nurse taking valium. by prescription. CALL your state board and talk to someone there about it. I have know on 3 occasions, nurses who were stealing narcotics in the hospital…the hospital dismissed them…after a loooong time, but did nothing about their licenses…the hospitals do not want the negative P.R. CALL the state board of nursing, and get a lawyer…a mean one….if the hospital persists in this attitude.
