How long does Valium stay in your system?

My dog has panic attacks and we give him Valium to calm him down but we don’t know how long it stays in his system so we never know when to give him more

Chosen Answer:

This is a human medicine forum. I can tell you about human metabolization of drugs, but I have no idea if it would be the same in a dog. They have slightly different body chemistry than humans, and process drugs differently. May I suggest you ask this question on a veterinary board? You would probably find a Vet who could answer your question. I certainly wouldn’t want to be responsible for killing your dog by giving you the wrong answer.

Is there any other medicine out there that can subsitute for valium?

I was wondering if there was any other medicine out there that you can take to subsitute for valium.

Chosen Answer:

Long term use of Valium is addictive. Therefore, you might want to revisit the reason you are taking it. Do you really need to take it any more? The body develops a tolerance over time and it may be that you don’t need it. you must go off of it slowly.
As far as a substitute is concerned, you must discuss with your doctor the original reasons for taking it. If it is due to anxiety your doctor might try newer and more effective medicines in the anti-depressent category.
The question of substitute really is better rephrased by saying
re-evaluate your need for it and then establish what the best medicine is available.

How does a depression medicine work for anxiety?

I have Social anxiety. My doctor prescribed Zoloft which is a depression medicine. I am just curious, how does the same medicine also treats social anxiety???

Chosen Answer:

They go hand in hand. You get anxious about something and after some time it becomes depressed over that same thing. In both cases, when the nerve ends send messages to the next nerve thru a gap, these messages don’t get there, they sort of bounce back to their origin. This is what’s called a chemical imbalance in the brain. These messages are sent via chemicals ‘jumping’ from one nerve end to the other. If they don’t get ‘absorbed’ by the second nerve, we become depressed and probably more anxious about more things in life.

How long does the anxiety last after you have detoxed from morphine?

Its been about a week now that I have been off the morphine, Im still having pretty been anxiety attacks, mostly at night. Is this gonna be a permanent side effect? Also are there ways to deal with these attacks without medicine?

Chosen Answer:

It won’t be permanent.

I can’t tell you how long it will last, but I think you should be near the end of it. Withdrawals only last a few days to 2 weeks.

I had bad episodes that would wake me up in the middle of the night when I stopped taking percocet cold turkey after my surgery. It sucked. I just “walked it off”, told myself that it was the withdrawals that were causing it and that my anxiety and shakiness and sweating was ok and would pass. I just calmed myself down really, it’s the best I could do.

My doctor told me that even though I’d feel better after a week after the surgery, I should ween myself off the pills. I didn’t listen, but weening is absolutely positively the best way to avoid all this. If you choose not to do that (like me), just do like I did above and talk yourself down when it hits bad.

What are ways to stop anxiety and depression?

I have anxiety and depression and its ruining my life. A lot of things trigger it. I dont have many friends, Im afraid to go to college and to get a job. Its hard for me to talk to people. What can I do to stop anxiety and depression? I cant afford therapy or medicine at the moment.

Chosen Answer:

Avoid your triggers if possible.
Exercise, balanced diet, low sugar and caffeine intake. Try to set aside time to do something you like during your day. When u you feel it coming on, stop, go to a quiet place, close your eyes and breath. Remind yourself this will pass. Start writing down what your feeling. Just get it out.
I do recommend therapy or talk to your doctor, clinics or some therapists do a sliding pay scale. When you think you can’t afford it remember this…depression can become a life or death situation. It’s also about the quality of your life. Do whatever it takes to make it better.

Can Valium be taken YEARS after expiration date?

I just came across some old medicines when cleaning out my medicine cabinet and came across some valium that expired in December of 2003. Are these safe to take? I am just curious, there’s only 4 left. Thanks!
I wasn’t planning on taking them, I was just curious. When I took them 8 years ago they didn’t do anything lol I’ve always heard that some drugs lose potency, while other drugs are toxic. Just wondering which type these are. Thanks for the comments.

Chosen Answer:

If they’ve been stored properly, they should be fine. (I can’t guarantee they will be, but I don’t see anything on the ingredient list that should cause problems with aging). Proper storage means in a cool, dark, dry place. If they’ve been exposed to heat and humidity for a long time, they’re probably useless. If stored properly, only difference should be (probably) minor loss of potency. The diazepam molecule is pretty stable.

How likely is an allergic reaction to Valium?

So the dentist gave me four Valium to help with the anxiety before a root canal, but I am a medicine phobe and hate taking anything for any reason really.

So my question is how likely is it for someone to have an allergic reaction to diazepam / Valium? I know that Valium has been around for a really long time and people take it in excess of 30 years with no physical side effects aside from addiction and dependence. I’m still concerned though. Thanks!

Chosen Answer:

Slim to none. Your dentist had to go to school as long as your physician did. They would know if you had any odd condition that would predispose you to any problem. As you said its been around long enough that they know enough about it to avoid that prob. Sounds like you have some anxiety issues and that might explain why they wrote the script for 4 . just take it and relax. You cant live your life in fear.

How to get rid of anxiety in public situations?

I have been having really bad anxiety. I get it out of no where and I don’t know how to get rid of it. I don’t want to take medicine, is there any way to get rid of it naturally? I am going on a plane on Thursday and I have never had anxiety on a plane. I am afraid I will because of what has been occurring recently. Please help? Thank you.

Chosen Answer:

Therapy helped me, but honestly medication is so much more effective. I didn’t want to take it either. Then I went to saying I’d only take it temporarily, I’d only take one, etc. Now I have found a good mixture that helps me and I wish I would have just accepted the fact that I needed it a few years ago and saved myself all that misery. Clonazepam might work great for you! I take 0.5 mg’s and it causes no side effects since the dose it low. It is used as-needed, not every day, and would work great for your social/plane anxiety. You take one pill, most likely 0.5-1 mg about two hours before you will need it. You will most likely sleep through that plane trip because it makes you really drowsy. For sleep I take it a few hours before, and for situational anxiety I take it the night before because the half-life is 50+ hours. Trying it out won’t hurt you. Therapy is also a good idea. Good luck!

Is it legal to fire a person over a positive valium blood test?

My father was fired because he tested positive for valium on a blood test. He was prescribed this medicine by a doctor, and valium (diazepam) is legal in the United States. Is this legal?

Chosen Answer:

I think if he showed them proof of a prescription then maybe it is not legal unless he was driving heavy equipment and got in a wreck or near wreck at work. You are not supposed to drive or operate heavy equipment when taking nerve pills.
