Why is Valium such a popular street drug? What does it do?

I’m doing a report, and I need to know why so many teenagers recommend valium as a popular drug, and what it does to the body. What does it do to your body that makes so many people crave it so often?

Chosen Answer:

Valium is a depressant.

It calms your nerves. It’s great combined with weed and if it’s mixed with alcohol people get really messed up…

What is the maximum period of time one can use Valium?

What tmaximum period of time is considered safe for using valium? I am having sleeping problems and my doctor prescribbed me with Valium (5 mg) and Ciprelex (5 mg). I am afraid it might hurt me. Plz help me as I am too concerned. Thanx in advance.

Chosen Answer:

Valium is highly addictive what is your doctor thinking of. Yes be concerned, Two weeks maximum. Out of all the Benzodiazepines Valium is one of the most addictive. If a doctor prescribes a tranq for sleep it should be a milder brand like Ativan, Rivotril or Xanax.
I was addicted to Valium when it was the only one around. Years later I had to go back on tranqs for anxiety but there are safer brands created.
There are sleeping pills that are milder than Benzos but the best is the anti-depressant Trazadone, which can be taken with Ciprelex – it’s non-habit forming.

What do anxiety disorders and schizophrenia have in common and how do they differ?

What do anxiety disorders and schizophrenia have in common and how do they differ?

Chosen Answer:

Anxiety and schizophrenia are two distinct physiological and psychological states of the mind. Anxiety deals with the unpleasant feeling which is often associated with apprehension, uneasiness, worry, or fear. Schizophrenia is much worse because it is already a mental disorder characterized by distortions of reality and disturbances of thought and language and withdrawal from social contact. Light anxiety is experienced by each of us from time to time, while the psychotic disorder schizophrenia is suffered by only a small percent of the world’s population.

Anxiety has physical effects such as headaches, stomachaches, shortness of breath, chest pain, nausea, fatigue, muscle weakness and tension, or heart palpitations. Emotional effects are also seen within an anxious person, that to include feelings of dread or apprehension, trouble concentrating, feeling jumpy or tense, expecting the worst, restlessness, irritability, watching for of danger, and feelings of having your mind gone blank. Anxiety also causes nightmares, déjà vu and fears. Schizophrenics though are characterized by foolish mannerisms and senseless laughter along with delusions and regressive behavior. They are paranoid and are disorganized in speech and thinking associated with significant occupational or social dysfunction.

Both anxiety and schizophrenia may have some relation with what happened in the past or the early environment of the person, which could be a traumatic experience or an intake of inappropriate drug. It could also be because of the risks involved in pregnancy. But only schizophrenia can have the genetic cause, not anxiety.

People who experience anxiety especially those who suffer from a disorder already usually ask if it possible that it will eventually turn into schizophrenia. The answer would be no, because the major cause of schizophrenia is the genetic condition of a person. The likelihood of having this psychotic disorder depends on the family history of the person. Anxiety is the not the cause of schizophrenia, rather, it is more of a behavioral response than a disease. Schizophrenia is biologically caused by overproduction of the neurotransmitter serotonin which causes brain damage to the behavioral and social stimuli of a person.

Anxious people still belongs in our world despite their struggle of constant fear, unlike schizophrenics who seem to have their own world where they talk to imaginary people. They both live in fear, but the schizophrenics are always paranoid that somebody’s reading or manipulating their minds and plotting harm against them. Anxiety does not cause disorganized speech and behavior. Schizophrenics are incomprehensible and even frightening because they intend to hurt the people around them without knowing it. They suffer from psychosis which is schizophrenia’s common condition where mental impairment is marked by delusions, sensory perception disturbances, and hallucinations which result from their inability to separate the real from the unreal experiences. Because of this, schizophrenia causes social anxiety or phobia.

Treatments on both anxiety and schizophrenia are available, but in the case of the latter, only one out of five individuals recover completely from their mental illness. Both could be treated with medications such as anxiety-reducing drugs and antipsychotic drugs. Anxiety can have an easy recovery compared with schizophrenia. The latter usually takes years to fully heal. They are required to be inside a mental institution so as to be observed and evaluated for their progress in behavior. Intake of mental medications on both anxiety and schizophrenia is not an assurance of being healed; sometimes it only makes the condition of the patient much worse.

It is advisable that if you got friends who suddenly became different with his interactions to other people and he seems to be acting weirder than usual, do not hesitate to seek professional help so that the illness won’t get worse.

Summary:

1. Anxiety is a kind of emotion, while schizophrenia is a mental disorder.

2. Schizophrenia has worse effects on a person than anxiety.

3. Anxiety and schizophrenia can both be caused by past traumatic events and intake of inappropriate drugs, but the latter’s major cause is genetic problem.

4. Anxiety does not lead to schizophrenia, but schizophrenics are always anxious.

5. Schizophrenics do not recognize the difference of the real and the unreal world, while people who suffer from anxiety are far from it.

6. Medications and therapies are available.

What anxiety medication do you take and how did you first know you needed medication?

What anxiety medication do you take and how did you first know you needed medication?

Chosen Answer:

I take Zoloft for my anxiety. I know it is an antidepressant, but it also works as an anitanxiety medicine.
I first discovered that I needed to take medication when I was in seventh grade and I realized that I had a bunch of irrational fears about dying. I didn’t tell my parents, and my anxieties took over my life. My grades started dropping and I quickly became depressed. Then, the next year in eighth grade, it was even worse. I almost failed eighth grade because I couldn’t concentrate. Still, I didn’t tell my parents. My parents yelled at me and I felt even worse about myself. My self esteem got even lower, and I was determined to fight my anxiety and pass high school. In night grade, I tried my hardest to push away my anxieties, and I found that I thought that I could fight them by doing certain rituals which I would perform when I felt anxious, like pulling my hair, squeezing my skin, among other things to get my mind off of it. I managed to pass 9th grade with C’s, but I wanted to do better than that. Then, in 10th grade everything came crashing down when I had an awful biology teacher who triggered my anxiety and I basically broke down. I would cry every night, I would have about three to four anxiety attacks a day, and I wouldn’t do my homework at all. I felt like I was in a funk that I coudln’t get out of. Then, on the last day of the second marking period, I faced my fears and went to my guidance counselor about my anxiety. She called my parents and my parents got me help. After about three weeks on Zoloft, I felt so much better. Now, my anxiety only comes up everyone once in a while, and I know who I can talk to about it.
If you are having any problems with anxiety, catch it before it gets worse. My anxiety took over my life and it got way out of hand. I got help though, and you can too. Talk to someone close to you and they will get you help, if you need it.
I hope this helps!

what is the difference between 2mg valium and 1 mg ativan?

I have a cat on 2mg valium to keep him from peeing elsewhere from the litter box. Can anyone tell me the difference between 2mg valium and 1mg ativan? Are they similar at all? Has ativan ever been prescribed for this ‘cat peeing’ problem?
BTW, no, I did not take the valium (rolling my eyes here…) I know what ativan is all about; just wondering exactly what my cat is getting. Valium was prescribed by the vet; I’ve had to cut it in 1/2 cuz 2mg was making the poor little guy wobble all over. Wondering if ativan would have been a better choice. Apparently not!
Thanx for your answers; no I would not give my cat prescription drugs. As I said, just wondering what the difference between the two is, as I know nothing about valium except that it’s seriously addictive.

Chosen Answer:

They are different drugs!!!!!!!!!! Do not give your cat a prescription medication without the vet giving the OK!!!!!

they are in the same family I think. Valium being Diazepam, and Ativan being Lorazepam. But there must be a difference. I am not sure if Ativan has ever been prescribed for a cat and a peeing problem.
You could ask the vet.

What is the relationship between confidence and anxiety?

What is the relationship between confidence and anxiety? Does low confidence create an anxiety disorder, or does an anxiety disorder create low confidence? What do you think? What is your experience? Thanks.

Chosen Answer:

Well, basically confidence and anxiety are more or less the complete opposite of each other. I have an anxiety disorder, and when I’m anxious I find myself unable to be as confident as I should be. But when I’m not anxious my confidence is really high. So yes, you could say an anxiety disorder does create low confidence. I wouldn’t say that low confidence creates an anxiety disorder though.

What is the best anxiety medication that works the fastest?

I am about to go to my doctor and ask her to prescribe me some anxiety medication. I have been dealing with anxiety for so long that I can’t take it any more. I wanted to know which anxiety medication works the fastest. I don’t want to wait months for the medication to kick in.

Chosen Answer:

MEDITATION and not medication is the answer;

Combine good meditative practices with the medication that your doctor has prescribed. The response would be faster.

Also, continue with your meditative practice without interruption life-long, just as you would not forget to breathe!
